Skin fillers and plumpers, (often referred to as dermal fillers) are used to plump up the skin. This softens and smoothes everything from fine facial lines and wrinkles, to scars (such as those caused by acne). They also create volume to facial areas that require an increase in fullness, such as lips.
Everyone’s skin is different. The nature and depth of facial lines you wish to treat will determine which products are recommended. With the variety of dermal fillers available, we can tailor a personal treatment programme to suit your individual needs. At NZIPCS, our temporary/biodegradable skin fillers of choice are Zyderm® and Zyplast® Collagen, and Hylaform®.
Collagen Instant Therapy is still one of the most sought after wrinkle treatments.
Collagen is a natural part of our skin and bones and the most common protein in our body. Unfortunately, the collagen support structure of our skin, which provides firmness and support, breaks down over time.
Zyderm® and Zyplast® Collagen is used to replace the skin's natural collagen. It is a highly purified form of bovine collagen, which means it is derived from cow skin.
Bovine collagen is very similar to human collagen and is extremely effective as a dermal filler. (Collagen taken from animals has been used to treat people for over 100 years in various medical treatments.) A small number of people (1-2 percent) may have a pre-existing sensitivity to collagen, so a skin allergy test is required one month prior to treatment.
Collagen Instant Therapy gives immediate results. Depending on the nature of the area treated, it will last on average 3-12 months.
A newer generation of skin fillers, Hylaform® Gel is made from Hyaluronan – another natural substance already found in the skin and throughout the body. Hylaform® Gel is used to fill in and smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, and to add volume to areas such as the lips.
The risk of allergy to Hylaform® is extremely rare and therefore an allergy skin test is not required.
Results are immediate and, depending on the area treated, will last on average 3-12 months.
