The thigh lift is a procedure designed to tighten the skin of the thigh and reduce sagging in the inner or outer thigh. It is often performed on patients who have loose skin as a consequence of major weight-loss, to provide a smoother contour which is more in keeping with the new body weight and shape.
The thigh lift is a procedure designed to tighten the skin of the thigh and reduce sagging in the inner or outer thigh. It is often performed on patients who have loose skin as a consequence of major weight loss. It is important that you are close to your ideal weight before undertaking a thigh lift, as additional weight loss will loosen the skin further. For this reason, liposuction is sometimes undertaken in conjunction with thigh-lift surgery.
A thigh lift can take two to three hours, depending on the amount of surgery undertaken. During the operation, segments of skin and underlying fatty tissue are removed from the thigh areas through elliptical incisions. The remaining thigh skin and tissue are then lifted and sutured to achieve a tighter, smoother contour. After surgery, dressings are applied and temporary tubes may be inserted to drain excess fluid from the area of surgery. Firm elastic bandages are then used to support the area.
Thigh lifts are usually performed under general anaesthetic.
An overnight stay in hospital is normally followed by a recovery period at home. Bruising and swelling is common and generally at least a week off work is required. You may need someone at home to help you for the first couple of days. Compression garments are worn for 3 - 4 weeks to help provide support and assist with the skin re-draping, especially if liposuction was performed. Light exercise helps with the healing process and reduces the chance of developing blood clots, but a return to vigorous exercise may take four to six weeks.
Although this is inevitable, the scars are usually positioned so that they are concealed with undergarments.
Costs vary according to the severity of the condition, the combination of procedures undertaken, the amount of surgical time involved and the facility where the procedure is carried out. We cannot offer an accurate cost estimate without seeing you. However, we do offer complimentary no-obligation nursing consultations as a first step towards helping you understand your options and the approximate costs involved.
A more accurate costing will be made after the first consultation.
